New Delhi: The Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) on Tuesday conducted two successful flight tests of Very Short Range Air Defense System (VSHORADS) missil, repoted news agency PTI.
The Integrated Test Range in Chandipur, Odisha, served as the setting for the test flight. According to the defense ministry, the flight tests were conducted against high-speed unmanned aerial targets from a ground-based man portable launcher, imitating approaching and receding aircraft. The targets were successfully intercepted, according to the Defense Ministry, achieving all mission objectives.

The missile is part of the Man Portable Air Defence System, which is designed to eliminate aerial threats at low altitudes at short ranges.
In collaboration with other DRDO laboratories and Indian Industry Partners, Research Centre Imarat, Hyderabad, designed and developed it internally.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh commended DRDO and industry accomplices saying the rocket outfitted with novel innovations will give further mechanical lift to the Military.
“The DRDO conducted two consecutive successful flight tests of the Very Short Range Air Defence System (VSHORADS) missile at the integrated test range at Chandipur off the coast of Odisha on March 14,” the ministry said, quoted PTI.
“The flight tests were carried out from a ground-based man portable launcher against high speed unmanned aerial targets, mimicking approaching and receding aircraft,” it said in a statement.
“The missile incorporates many novel technologies including Dual-band IIR Seeker, miniaturised reaction control system and integrated avionics. The propulsion is provided by a dual thrust solid motor,” the ministry said.
Samir V. Kamat, chairman of the DRDO, also offered his congratulations to the teams involved in the missile’s successively successful flight tests.
