The Hunger Games is one of those fandoms that has been on the back burner for a while, but it’s starting to come back. Whether you read the books ten years ago or yesterday, you probably still have strong opinions about the series and its characters.
My hot take is that some Hunger Games fans care more about the games than they do about the characters. I am not innocent of this: I was one of those kids who wanted a TV adaptation of every game up to the 74th. Reality TV and violent media have rotted our brains so much that even though we know the Hunger Games is supposed to horrify us, we are still entertained by it. The desire to watch different produced reality TV storylines about kids getting murdered reveals how cavalier we can be and how easy it would be for a Hunger Games-esque game show to occur in the real world.
